The theme of the 2026 Germantown Food & Seeds Collective CommUNITY Expo is "Ballin On A Budget". We will demonstrate how to make growing food and preparing meals at home more affordable. We will also have community members show us how to take better care of our beloved "Mama Trees", harvest local wild edibles, express ourselves via song, poetry and or storytelling and more.

We would love to have some community organizations have a table, recruit for new members and share resources.

We are looking for vendors of homemade goods, holistic health and wellness services.

We are also in need of volunteers.

If you know of any fellow GREAT members, community members and Germantown organizations that may want to participate, please have them contact Celeste Preston via email CelestePreston87@gmail.com

Jeannie will teach wild edible plant identification around the Wyck Historic Garden and Farm. She may also give a brief overview of where they are typically found in our neighborhood.

Todzsa will be demonstrating how to make "Stone Soup" inspired by the children's book. Those who are interested in participating are asked to bring a small bag of their favorite vegetables or herbs to add to the soup.

Sara will be sharing how important it is to cut back English Ivy off the trees in our neighborhood.

Celeste will be demonstrating how to make orange juice and grapefruit juice without electricity. Citrus fruit will be provided.

Webb will be leading the open mic activity where community members can share songs, poetry and or stories.

A children's craft table and seed/seedlings table will be ongoing during the expo.

More Germantown organizations that will be at the Expo:

  • Hansberry Garden

  • Germantown United CDC

  • Joseph E. Coleman Library

  • Spork Food will be using foraged wild edibles and veggies to demonstrate affordable meal preparation and taste testing.

The Seed Exchange is an annual GREAT event which began in 2021.

The seed library comes from the seed exchanges, and can be shared as a community resource year-round.
